I Found My Purpose

I was cleaning my room recently and I went through all the sketchbooks that I’ve had through the years (10-15 years worth of drawings)

Here are a few sketches 👇

Prior to that, I was feeling a bit confused and was asking myself questions like

‘Do I wanna draw forever?’

‘What is the purpose of me drawing?’

‘What should I do with my Art?’ etc.

But as I was going through all the sketchbooks, I felt very ‘happy’ by just looking at them.

I took out a notebook and started writing down the things I drew, why I drew them and what I liked drawing.

I came up with 4 things that made me feel like I’ve found my purpose for drawing.

😌 I draw to tell my experiences through drawing the best way I can. In a way, I'm trying to express myself through it.

✏️ I like to draw what I think. It can be ideas, quotes, or random weird jokes/scenarios I get in my head.

🧠 I think I draw to keep myself calm and clear my head of things that bother me.

😊 I'm drawing for my future self to see and realise how far we've come. Since every drawing I've made connects me to different time periods of life.

Just like how certain smells or certain songs make you feel nostalgic and happy, my drawings makes me feel the same.

The last point really struck a cord and made me realise that I should be drawing for myself no matter what career or path I take. It gave me a reason.

I’m sharing this here since I thought you might find it helpful in some way.

Here’s how my next illustration from the school series is coming out. 🎉

Sketching and Inking done ✅

That’s it for this week.

If you have any thoughts and ideas that you feel I should know, just reply to this email and we can have a conversation about it.

Have a good one :)

Kapil, over and out.
