Passion is Overrated

This might be a rant 😅

I’m not really sure these days when people say they are passionate about something. 🤔

Is being passionate something that you like doing? Is passion singular? or can you have many? Is it something that fulfils you?

If yes, then would you be able to do it EVERY DAY?

Even when it becomes tiring, or even if you don’t feel like it? (Answer honestly, because I’ve learned you can’t do something, even if you love it with all your heart, everyday)

And I’m not talking about passion in a way where you’re trying to make money out of it. 💸

Because then it becomes a thing that you need to do everyday and be disciplined about, which has it benefits. (obviously)

I’m talking about passion where you feel the intrinsic joy by DOING something. You feel this sparkly feeling while you’re doing it, like cooking a dish for someone, drawing something that’s been in your head for a while, talking to the person you’re interested in after so long etc.

Take me,

✏️ I REALLY like to draw.

🧠 I REALLY like psychology, and studying about Animals.

🏋️ I REALLY like physiology and learning how the body works,

🫂 I REALLY like to go out with people that I like.

I’m very passionate about all these things. I love them.

But, I can’t do these everyday.

Because I’ve personally learnt that doing these things, like drawing everyday, or studying about things I like, talking to people that I like everyday, eventually, numbs the excitement that I get from doing them. (Again, I'm talking about things in non-monetary way)

So I’ve come to understand that passion is not singular.

It’s not just something that you do everyday for a career and financial gain, but it’s also the things that you enjoy doing once in a while, like

🚶‍♂️ Going on a walk while talking to someone you love, or

💻 Arranging your desk to start drawing a piece that means a lot to you or even

📕 Just sitting and writing your thoughts can be something people can be passionate about.

One thing that has made me feel calm these days when I hear the question

“What’s your passion?" is,

'Passion is something that I can enjoy doing when and how I want to. It can be something that I do everyday, or it can be something that I enjoy doing once in a while.'

And I don’t have a single passion, instead I have many. Which makes me feel relieved.

I don’t rank them because they are all things that I love doing.

So instead of worrying about what my ONE SINGLE PASSION is, I treat my Passion and my Goals as separate things and focus on them contextually.

If I want to make money, good, I will choose something that makes the most sense and something that I don't dislike doing, it doesn't have to be something that I'm super passionate about, but if I like it, I'll do it. 😌

And if I want to feel good/happy, I have my list of things that I'm passionate about and I'll work on them at some point during the day. It can be reading about something, or drawing, or calling and talking to someone. 📞

Do you think this makes sense? or am I alone in this?

I started my next illustration on my 'School' series and it's a memory that I have about after school snacks. 🍔

Also, I recorded a video for my YouTube channel but didn't post it because I wanted to properly edit it.

But now I think I'm just procrastinating on doing it. So maybe I'll record a quick one to update on what I'm doing and what I haven't done for February.

With that said,

Kapil. Over and out.
